cards
at
a
rate
which
varies

depending
upon
the
last

Successive
pairs
of
characters

area
are
translated
into
card
code
by
the
integrated
card
control
and
punched
siITlultaneously
in
two
con-
secutive
card
colurrms.
Beginning
with
the
first
two
coluITlns,
successive
pairs
of
coluITlns
are
punched
until
the
last
coluITln
is
punched
or
until
a
record
ITlark
is
sensed
in
the
punch-iITlage
area.
As
shown
in
Figure
4-1,
the
basic
cOITlponents
of
the
Type
214-1
Card
Punch
are
an
input
hopper,
a
wait
station,
a
punching
station,
and
an
output
stacker.
The
input
hopper
has
a
capacity
of
1,200
cards;
the
output
stacker
has
a
capacity
of
1,300
cards.
Cards
ITlay
be
loaded
into
the
input
hopper
or
reITloved
froITl
the
output
stacker
during
a
punch
operation.
Selected
cards
or
error
cards
ITlay
be
offset-stacked
in
the
output
stacker.
