press
the
VACUUM
OFF
and
POWER
MAIN
ON
buttons.
This
action
cOITlpletely
reITloves
vaCUUITl
and
power
froITl
the
tape
drive.
Tape
Mounting
and
Loading
1.
To
ITlount
a
tape
reel,
the
following
procedures
should
be
followed:
a.
Place
the
tape
status
switch
in
the
TAPE
CHANGE
position.
b.
Mount
the
tape
reel
and
press
it
firITlly
in
place
on
the
reel
ITlount.
The
stainless
steel
hub
on
the
reel
ITlount
ITlust
be
pressed
while
ITlounting
the
reel.
After
securing
the
reel
on
the
reel
ITlount,
release
the
hub
and
the
reel
will
be
locked
in
place.
c.
Unwind
approxiITlately
three
feet
of
tape
froITl
the
supply
reel
and
thread
it
through
the
tape
cleaners
and
under
the
read/write
head.
Loop
the
free
end
of
the
tape
up
over
the
take-up
reel
in
a
clockwise
direction
(ITlaking
sure
that
the
tape
is
not
twisted).
Insert
the
forefinger
of
the
left
hand
through
one
of
the
slots
in
the
take-up
reel
and
ITlanually
rotate
the
reel
clockwise
until
at
least
one
cOITlplete
turn
of
tape
is
firITlly
seated
on
the
reel.
After
the
tape
is
seated
on
the
reel,
reITlove
the
finger
and
continue
ITlanually
turning
the
take-up
reel
for
10
or
15
ITlore
turns.
NOTE:
Do
not
ITlanually
rotate
the
supply
reel
while
turning
the
take-up
reel,
since
friction
provides
the
necessary
windup
tension
on
the
take-up
reel.
d.
Press
the
VACUUM
ON
button.
Make
sure
the
tape
is
aligned
properly
in
the
tape
feeding
guide
on
each
side
of
the
read/write
head,
then
back
off
both
reels
approxiITlately
one
or
two
turns
to
provide
the
tape
slack
for
sucking
into
the
loop
chaITlbers.
e.
Set
the
tape
status
switch
to
either
the
PERMIT
or
the
PROTECT
position
to
activate
the
tape
unit
for
the
desired
status.
If
the
tape
being
ITlounted
is
to
be
written
on,
the
plastic
write-enable
ring
ITlust
be
in
place
in
the
supply
reel,
and
the
tape
status
switch
ITlust
be
set
in
the
PERMIT
position.
At
the
cOITlpletion
of
the
tape
ITlounting
procedure,
the
BOT
indicator
on
the
tape
unit
control
panel
is
illuITlinated.
Tape
Rewinding
1.
To
perforITl
a
rewind
operation
to
the
beginning-of-tape
reflective
ITlarker
so
that
the
tape
ITlay
be
deITlounted:
a.
Place
the
tape
status
switch
in
the
TAPE
CHANGE
position.
The
read/write
head
rotates
upward
out
of
position,
and
the
tape
re-
winds
onto
the
supply
reel.
The
rewind
proceeds
at
six
tiITles
read/write
speed
until
the
reel
diaITleter
photocell
senses
light
b.
as
the
rewind
nears
cOITlpletion.
At
this
point,
the
tape
decel-
erates
to
the
norITlal
read/write
speed
and
continues
at
this
rate
until
the
beginning-of-tape
reflective
ITlarker
is
sensed.
When
this
occurs,
tape
ITlotion
stops
and
the
tape
unit
is
in
a
released
condition
with
the
MAIN
ON
and
VACUUM
ON
indicators
illuITlinated.
Press
the
VACUUM
OFF
button.
This
allows
the
tape
unit
to
cycle
down;
i.
e.
,
all
ITlotors
are
de-energized,
and
loop
chaITlber
and
cap-
stan
vaCUUITl
are
vented,
etc.,
so
that
the
supply
reel
ITlay
be
reITloved.
