Network redundancy
Fault Tolerant Ethernet (FTE)
Honeywell's Fault Tolerant Ethernet (FTE) provides redundancy and a highly available
networking scheme using commercial network interface cards (NIC) and standard Ethernet
hardware (switches).
For more information about FTE, see the Fault Tolerant Ethernet Overview and
Implementation Guide.
Process controllers
Experion supports supervisory level communications over Honeywell's Fault Tolerant
Ethernet (FTE) network.
There are two different types of supervisory communication:
n At level 3 there is the supervisory communication between the server and client.
n At level 2 there is the downstream supervisory connection to the controllers on the
Experion Process Network (EPN).
For more information about the networking security, see the “Network security” chapter of
the Network and Security Planning Guide.
