Introduction
This
section
covers conventions
which
are
used
in
programming
the
instrument,
as
well
as
conventions used
in
the
remainder
of
this
manual.
This chapter
contains
a
detailed
description
of
the
command
tree
and
command tree traversal.
For
more
information
on
command syntax
refer
to
the
chapter
"Message
Communication
and
System
Functions."
Truncation
Rules
The truncation
rule
for
the
mnemonics
used
in
headers and
alpha
arguments
is:
The
mnemonic
is
the
first
four characters
of
the
keyword
unless:
The
fourth
character
is
a
vowel,
then
the
mnemonic
is
the
first
three
characters
of
the
keyword.
This
rule
will
not
be
used
if
the
length
of
the
keyword
is
exactly
four
characters.
Some
examples
of
how
the
truncation
rule
is
applied
to
various
commands
are
shown
in
table
4-1.
