7.30 Repairing damaged threads
If threads on the chainsaw are worn, there are
repair kits available.
Damaged threads in the cylinder cover can be
repaired using the 578 12 03-01 thread insert.
Drill rst with a 7.5 mm drill bit. Then screw in the
thread insert using a suitable screw and spanner
as shown in Figure 97.
Threading plug
Damaged threads can be repaired using a threading
plug. The slotted section in the thread plug is
screwed in place rst as this is the cutting part.
Request to repair a thread where a PL5 screw
was used. First drill with a 6.1 mm bit and then
screw in the thread plug using a suitable screw and
spanner.
If a thread for an MT4 screw must be repaired, rst
drill with a 5.1 bit and then screw in the thread plug
using a suitable screw and spanner.
This type of thread plug is ideal for plastic and
magnesium but cannot be used to repair aluminium
threads, where helicoil and metric screws must be
used instead. Check the manufacturer’s manual for
thread information.
