Sound and television cards
About sound cards
Some IBM Aptiva PCs come with a sound card (also
called an audio card) already installed.
Many software programs use the sound card for sound
effects and music. The sound card processes audio data
files and works with the CD-ROM drive to play audio
compact discs.
Most sound cards have the following connections:
Line in This connector, sometimes labeled In, is
designed to receive the output from another
device, such as a stereo receiver or tape
recorder.
Mic This connector is designed to receive input
from an external microphone.
Line out This connector, sometimes labeled Out, is
designed to transmit audio output from the
sound card to another device, such as
amplified speakers, a stereo, a tape
recorder, or headphones.
MIDI This connector is designed to transmit or
receive MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital
Interface) signals to or from a MIDI device,
such as a keyboard. This connector may
also be used with an input device for
games, such as a joystick.
If you use an industry standard MIDI/joystick
expansion cable, you can connect up to two
joysticks and one MIDI device at the same
time.
If you need more information about the sound card that
came installed in your computer, refer to the
documentation that came with the sound card.
This
documentation may be online or in a printed book.
About television cards
Some IBM Aptiva PCs come with a television (TV) card
already installed.
The TV card is designed to work with many devices.
Some examples of devices you might be able to attach
to the TV card are a TV antenna, cable TV, a VCR, a
laser-disc player, or a video camera. You can also attach
speakers to the audio output connector.
If you need more information about the TV card that
came installed in your computer, refer to the
documentation that came with the TV card. This
documentation may be online or in a printed book.
