Installing system memory modules 71
Installing system memory modules
Your system board has two system memory module
sockets that hold dual inline memory modules (DIMMs).
You can upgrade the system memory in your computer
by installing a DIMM in an empty DIMM socket. You can
also replace a DIMM that is already installed with a
DIMM of higher memory capacity.
You can install an 8 MB, 16 MB, or 32 MB DIMM in either
socket. Any combination of these three module
capacities is acceptable. The maximum amount of
memory you can have installed in your computer is
64 MB.
Note:
Any DIMM you install must have these specifications:
168-pin; 64-bit; 8 MB, 16 MB, or 32 MB; gold contacts;
unbuffered; 3.3V; synchronous dynamic random access
memory (SDRAM) or 60 nanosecond (ns) extended
data out (EDO).
DIMM Sockets
For possible module placement configurations, see the
specification table in “Memory module placement” on
page 137.
Installing a dual inline memory
module
To install a DIMM in an open socket, follow these steps:
1. Locate the two clips that hold the memory module
in place. One clip holds the left edge of the module
and the other clip holds the right edge.
2. Push both clips away from the socket.
