How Rapid Resume features affect
your computer’s operation
Table 1 describes how Rapid Resume features change
your computer’s normal operation.

Activity: Feature and explanation:
System and monitor
are on, but nothing is
displayed on the
screen.
Feature: Standby
This is a normal activity of the
Standby feature. To exit Standby,
use any of the devices your
computer checks for activity. For
information about these checked
devices, see “Standby” on
page 24.
Delay before mouse
works.
Feature: Standby
When your computer comes out
of Standby, and the desktop
reappears, it may take a few
seconds for the mouse to become
active.
Computer waits
before turning off.
Feature: Rapid Resume
It can take up to several seconds
before Rapid Resume saves the
desktop and turns off the
computer.
Computer comes on
when you haven’t
pushed the on/off
button.
Feature: Scheduler or Automatic
Power On
This is a normal activity of the
Scheduler and Automatic Power
On features. You can schedule
your computer to come on at a
specific date and time.
Computer comes on
when the phone rings.
Feature: Wake Up on Ring
This is a normal activity of the
Wake Up on Ring feature. You can
set up your computer to turn itself
on when the phone rings to
receive data, a fax, or a voice
message.
System power light is
blinking while the
system is on.
Feature: Blink power light setting
in Standby
This is a normal activity of the
blink power light setting in the
Standby feature. The blinking light
indicates that your computer is in
Standby. You can turn this setting
on and off only in the Setup
Utility. For information on the
blink power light setting, see
“Standby” on page 41.
