Using the Setup Utility 45
Check modem activity (IRQ 10)
Use this option to specify whether your computer
checks the modem, or any other device using IRQ 10, to
determine whether you are using your computer.
If the Standby feature is enabled and you enable this
setting, your computer will not enter Standby while the
modem (or other device using IRQ 10) is active. If your
computer enters Standby, it will return to the desktop
when the modem (or other device) becomes active.
If the Automatic Power Off feature is enabled and you
enable this setting, your computer will not turn itself off
while the modem (or other device) is active.
Note:
The modem in your computer is assigned interrupt
request (IRQ) 10 at the factory. If installation of new
hardware causes another IRQ to be assigned to the
modem, your computer will no longer be able to check
activity in the modem. Your computer will check the
activity in the device that is assigned use of IRQ 10
instead.
On/off button mode
Use this option to control whether the Rapid Resume
feature works with the system on/off button.
If you select the Rapid Resume setting, then when you
use the system on/off button to turn off your computer,
your computer saves the state of your desktop and then
turns your system off. The next time you turn your
computer on, the desktop appears the way you left it.
If you select the Power Off setting, then when you use
the system on/off button to turn off your computer, your
computer turns off immediately and does not save the
state of your desktop. You can still have Rapid Resume
save your desktop, however, by selecting Suspend
from the Start button on your desktop when you are
ready to turn off your computer.
As with all Setup Utility settings, you must save your
changes and exit the Setup Utility before the new
settings can take effect. If you change the On/Off Button
Mode setting from Power Off to Rapid Resume and then
press the system on/off button before you save and exit
from the Setup Utility, Rapid Resume will not be set to
work with your system on/off button.
