To remove the hard disk drive backplane cable assembly, complete the following
steps.

Procedure
1. Read the safety information that begins with “Safety” on page v and
“Installation guidelines” on page 97.
2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and
all external cables as necessary to replace the device.
3. Remove the top cover (see “Removing and replacing consumable parts and Tier
1 CRUs” on page 105).
4. Pull the hard disk drives and fillers out of the server slightly to disengage them
from the SAS backplane. If you remove the drives from the server, be sure to
note the location of each drive so that you will be able to reinstall it in the
correct drive bay.
5. Slide the latch on top of the backplane assembly while you pull the blue handle
on the backplane cable assembly up to remove it from the server. The cables
are attached to the assembly.
6. Disconnect the power and configuration cables from the hard disk drive
backplane.
7. If you are instructed to return the hard disk drive backplane cable assembly,
follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping
that are supplied to you.
