SIGNALTEK Operation Manual 1-13
battery indicator to behave differently than it does with alkaline
batteries because of the different cell voltage and discharge
characteristics.
Alkaline batteries discharge in a linear fashion and the battery
indicator will gradually change from green to yellow to red.
Rechargeable batteries such as NiMH have a lower starting
voltage (1.2 volts per cell) and will hold a constant voltage for most
of their life then suddenly discharge very rapidly.
When using NiMH batteries the indicator will remain green for a
short time, and then turn yellow for most of the life of the batteries.
Once the indicator turns red the pack is nearly completely
discharged and the tester will turn off very shortly because of the
discharged battery pack.
