3 Safety regulations
3.1 General regulations
1. The accident prevention regulations (German UVV/BGV A-D) must be complied with
when operating the device.
2. This unit must be operated only by persons who have been trained in its usage and who
have thoroughly studied this Operating Manual. Inadequate knowledge can cause
damage to the unit or put the operator at risk.
3. When lowering the IMS cutter DRIVE into manhole structures, never permit personnel to
stay in the manhole or underneath the suspended load.
4. Observe all accident prevention regulations for working on pipelines, earth-moving
machines, winches, lifting and towing devices, and safety regulations for pipeline
construction work.
3.2 Special regulations
1. The cutter motor may not be operated without cutting tool. Operation conducted without
or with unadapted cutting tools may lead to destruction of the cutter drive.
2. Before opening the ball valve on the hose drum, check that the switch “Cutter motor” is
switched off. Otherwise, the cutter motor begins to rotate immediately. Never attempt to
grab the cutting tool! Before opening the valve, verify that no personnel are touching the
cutter tool! Personnel are also prohibited from stopping the cutting tool with a foot or any
kind of implement.
3. Rotation of the cutting head is accomplished by means of an electrical drive. Turning the
rotating drive by hand is prohibited as this can cause damage to the gear unit.
4. Pressure monitoring is one of the most important tasks when operating the system. The
manufacturer assumes no product liability for moisture-related damage if such damage
cannot be inspected in the service shop within 3 days of it occurring.
5. The IMS cutter DRIVE must not be operated outdoors without the auxiliary pipe.
6. Opening the ball valve to fill or drain distilled water must be done only with the water
switch in the OFF position and with the compressor switched OFF or with the compressor
hose unplugged. Perform the operation with great care, since the water tank is
pressurized. Never lean over the ball valve!
7. Use exclusively distilled water for camera cleaning!
8. Distilled water must not be consumed.
9. The cutter drive must not be used without the camera.
10. Always use hearing protections when operating the air-powered cutter motor on the IMS
cutter DRIVE.
11. The water and air hoses are designed for a pressure of 10 bar. Only ever use hoses
approved by IMS and no others.
12. To ensure a safe working and to minimize damage to the unit, an annual inspection of
the unit at IMS or an authorized service partner is recommended.
