ImpOrTANT INfO: The Ethernet disk’s performance can be
affected by such external forces as network activity, hardware,
distance and setup.
ImpOrTANT INfO: For optimal performance, use a Giga-
bit Ethernet router and a Gigabit Ethernet board in your host
computer.
Network Requirements
Before connecting your Ethernet disk, make sure that your broad-
band home network is running properly. Make sure you are able
to access the Internet from your computer.
HipServ™ automatically configures the majority of today’s con-
sumer routers utilizing UPnP features. Make sure your router is
UPnP-enabled. If the router is not UPnP enabled, refer to your
router documentation for manual configuration help. To make
use of all the Ethernet disk features, you will need the following:
Ethernet router
(UPnP capability preferred)
Consumer Broadband Internet Connection: HipServ™
utilizes ports 80 (HTTP), 443 (HTTPS) and 22 (SSH). These
ports must therefore be unblocked. In addition, in order to
set up and create your web portal you must register your
Ethernet disk. To do so, the ports 22 (SSH) and 80 (HTTP)
or 443 (HTTPS) must be unblocked. Once the setup has
completed, in order to access your Ethernet disk remotely,
the ports 1194 (or 1195) and 443 must be opened.
TeChNICAl NOTe: If you want to access your Ethernet Disk
remotely via FTP and not via the web portal, the port 21 must
be unblocked.
Internet gateway/router providing DHCP service with
UPnP enabled: If the router does not have UPnP or if UPnP
is not enabled, see the troubleshooting section for enabling
UPnP and the automated setup or manual configuration of
the router to enable remote access.
USB hard drive (for backing up your Ethernet disk to MySafe
only)
