monitor,andotherdevices.
Backupallimportantdatabeforeyoumakechangestodiskdrives.
Haveasmallflat-bladescrewdriver,asmallPhillipsscrewdriver,andaT8torxscrewdriveravailable.
ToviewtheerrorLEDsonthesystemboardandinternalcomponents,leavetheserverconnectedto
power.
Youdonothavetoturnofftheservertoinstallorreplacehot-swappowersupplies,hot-swapfans,or
hot-plugUniversalSerialBus(USB)devices.However,youmustturnofftheserverbeforeyouperform
anystepsthatinvolveremovingorinstallingadaptercablesandyoumustdisconnectthepowersource
fromtheserverbeforeyouperformanystepsthatinvolveremovingorinstallingarisercard.
Blueonacomponentindicatestouchpoints,whereyoucangripthecomponenttoremoveitfromor
installitintheserver,openorclosealatch,andsoon.
Orangeonacomponentoranorangelabelonornearacomponentindicatesthatthecomponentcanbe
hot-swapped,whichmeansthatiftheserverandoperatingsystemsupporthot-swapcapability,youcan
removeorinstallthecomponentwhiletheserverisrunning.(Orangecanalsoindicatetouchpointson
hot-swapcomponents.)Seetheinstructionsforremovingorinstallingaspecifichot-swapcomponentfor
anyadditionalproceduresthatyoumighthavetoperformbeforeyouremoveorinstallthecomponent.
Whenyouarefinishedworkingontheserver,reinstallallsafetyshields,guards,labels,andgroundwires.
Systemreliabilityguidelines
Thesystemreliabilityguidelinesaretoensurepropersystemcooling.
Tohelpensurepropersystemcoolingandsystemreliability,makesurethatthefollowingrequirements
aremet:
Eachofthedrivebayshasadriveorafillerpanelandelectromagneticcompatibility(EMC)shield
installedinit.
Eachofthepower-supplybayshasapowersupplyorafillerinstalledinit.
Iftheserverhasredundantpower,eachofthepower-supplybayshasapowersupplyinstalledinit.
Thereisadequatespacearoundtheservertoallowtheservercoolingsystemtoworkproperly.Leave
approximately50mm(2.0in.)ofopenspacearoundthefrontandrearoftheserver.Donotplace
objectsinfrontofthefans.Forpropercoolingandairflow,replacetheservercoverbeforeyouturnon
theserver.Operatingtheserverforextendedperiodsoftime(morethan30minutes)withtheserver
coverremovedmightdamageservercomponents.
Youhavefollowedthecablinginstructionsthatcomewithoptionaladapters.
Youhavereplacedafailedfanwithin48hours.
Youhavereplacedahot-swapfanwithin30secondsofremoval.
