youmustconsiderwhenyouinstallanadapter.

TheserverprovidestwointernalSASconnectorsandtwoSAS/SATARAIDriser-cardslotsonthesystem
board.See“System-boardoptional-deviceconnectors”onpage32forthelocationoftheinternal
SAS/SATARAIDconnectorandriser-cardslots.YoucanreplacetheLenovoServeRAIDSAS/SATA
adapterwithanoptionalLenovoServeRAIDSAS/SATAadapterintheslot.Forconfigurationinformation,
seetheServeRAIDdocumentationathttp://www.lenovo.com/support.
Donotsetthemaximumdigitalvideoadapterresolutionabove1600x1200at75HzforanLCDmonitor.
Thisisthehighestresolutionthatissupportedforanyadd-onvideoadapterthatyouinstallintheserver.
Theserverdoesnotsupportlegacy5VPCIadapters.
WhenyouinstallanyPCIadapter,thepowercordsmustbedisconnectedfromthepowersourcebefore
youremovethePCIExpressriser-cardassemblyandthePCI-Xriser-cardassembly.Otherwise,the
activepowermanagementeventsignalwillbedisabledbythesystem-boardlogic,andtheWakeonLAN
featuremightnotwork.However,aftertheserverispowered-onlocally,theactivepowermanageractive
powermanagementeventsignalwillbeenabledbythesystem-boardlogic.
TheserverprovidestwoPCIriser-cardslotsonthesystemboard.IfyouwanttoinstallaPCIExpressor
PCI-Xadapter,youmustorderthePCIriser-cardoption.
IfyouareinstallingaServeRAID-M5110orServeRAID-M5120adapter,itcanonlybeinstalledinPCI
slot1,2,4,or5.
Thefollowingtableshowsthelocationsoftheadapterexpansionslotsfromtherearoftheserver.

Step4.Determinewhichexpansionslotyouwillusefortheadapter.
Step5.IfyouareinstallinganadapterinPCIexpansionslot1,2,or3,removePCIriser-cardassembly1;if
youareinstallinganadapterinPCIexpansionslot4,5,or6,removePCIriser-cardassembly2.
