Thefollowingnotesdescribethetypeofharddiskdrivesthattheserversupportsandotherinformationthat
youmustconsiderwhenyouinstallaharddiskdrive.
•Locatethedocumentationthatcomeswiththedriveandfollowthoseinstructionsinadditiontothe
instructionsinthischapter.
•Makesurethatyouhaveallthecablesandotherequipmentthatarespecifiedinthedocumentationthat
comeswiththedrive.
•Selectthebayinwhichyouwanttoinstallthedrive.
•Checktheinstructionsthatcomewiththedrivetodeterminewhetheryouhavetosetanyswitchesor
jumpersonthedrive.
•Theelectromagneticinterference(EMI)integrityandcoolingoftheserverareprotectedbyhavingallbays
andPCIandPCIExpressslotscoveredoroccupied.Whenyouinstalladrive,PCI,orPCIExpress
adapter,savetheEMCshieldandfillerpanelfromthebayorPCIadapterorPCIExpressadapterslot
coverintheeventthatyoulaterremovethedevice.
