Overview

This document describes the Nailor Fan Powered Terminal Unit with EPIC ECM Motor, available in various models including 35S, 35SW, 35SE, 35S-CVP, 35SW-CVP, 35SE-CVP, 35S-OAI, 35SW-OAI, 35SE-OAI, 35SST, 35SWST, 35SEST, 35SST-OAI, 35SWST-OAI, 35SEST-OAI, 35SXC, 35SWXC, and 35SEXC, across unit sizes 1-7. These units are designed for series flow, constant or variable volume applications, and some models are specifically for pressurization or exposed ceiling applications with super quiet operation (Stealth XC).

Function Description:

The Nailor Fan Powered Terminal Unit is an air distribution device equipped with an Ultra-high efficiency EPIC ECM fan motor and an EPIC fan volume controller. It utilizes a multi-point averaging Diamond Flow sensor for precise airflow measurement and control. The unit is designed to deliver conditioned air at a constant or variable volume, with options for heating (hot water coil, electric coil, or floating heat) and cooling. Pressurization models (CVP) are specifically designed for clean room applications such as hospital isolation wards, operating rooms, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology manufacturing and research facilities, providing continuous monitoring, automatic compensation, and precise control of discharge airflow regardless of static pressure variations. Stealth XC models are designed for exposed ceiling applications, featuring a tuned inlet silencer for super quiet operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Construction: The units feature an 18 ga. (1.31) galvanized steel channel frame with 20 ga. (1.00) casing components. A 16 ga. (1.61) galvanized steel inclined opposed blade damper with 45° rotation (CW to close for basic models, RH CW to close/LH CCW to close for OAI models) is standard.
  • Insulation: 3/4" (19) dual density insulation with exposed edges coated to prevent air erosion is standard, meeting NFPA 90A and UL 181 requirements. Stealth XC models feature Steri-liner insulation (13/16" (21) thick, 4 lb./sq. ft. (64 kg/m3) density rigid fiberglass with alum. FSK facing). Pressurization models (CVP) use a solid metal 'IAQ' liner.
  • Motor: Ultra-high efficiency EPIC ECM fan motor with integrated volume controller. FLA ratings vary by unit size and voltage (120V, 208V, 240V, 277V single phase/60 Hz). For example, a size 1 unit at 120V has 2.1 FLA, while a size 7 unit at 120V has 15.9 FLA (17.5 FLA for CVP size 7).
  • Airflow Sensor: Multi-point averaging Diamond Flow sensor supplied with balancing tees. Cross Flow Sensor is an available option.
  • Controls Enclosure: Full primary air valve low voltage NEMA 1 type enclosure for factory mounted DDC and analog electronic controls. Controls are mounted as standard on the RH side, with LH controls as an optional inversion. FN2 90° Line Voltage Enclosure and FN3 Remote Line Voltage Controls Enclosure are options.
  • Heating Options:
    • Hot Water Coil (SW models): Coil section installed on unit discharge, 1/2" (13) copper tubes, aluminum ripple fins. Sweat connections: 1 Row 1/2" (13), 2 and 3 Row 7/8" (22) O.D. male solder (sizes 1-3); 1, 2, and 3 Row 7/8" (22) O.D. male solder (sizes 4-6). Size 7 has 1 and 2 Row 7/8" (22), 3 Row 1 3/8" (35) O.D. male solder.
    • Electric Coil (SE models): Unique hinged heater design for easy access, coil installed on unit discharge, insulated coil element wrapper, automatic reset high limit cut-outs (one per element), single point electrical connection (except 600V), positive pressure airflow switch, Class A 80/20 Ni/Cr wire. Available in single phase (208V, 240V, 277V) and three phase (208V, 480V, 600V) configurations.
  • Digital Controls (EZvav): BACnet Application Specific Controllers (ASC) with integrated actuators and internal airflow sensors. Supports single duct cooling VAV, modulating/floating/staged reheat, series/parallel fan control, automatic changeover, DAT limiting, and occupancy setback.
  • Sound Performance: NC levels are calculated based on AHRI Standard 885 procedures. Radiated sound power levels are provided, with deductions for environmental and ceiling/space effects.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Access: Full size access panels on three sides (basic models). Hinged fan controls enclosure.
  • Electrical Connection: Single point electrical and/or pneumatic main air connection.
  • Duct Connection: Discharge opening for flanged duct connection.
  • Control Options:
    • Digital Controls: Factory or field mounted options. Nailor EZvav system offers intuitive configuration via digital display wall sensors (STE-8001W36, STE-8201W36 with occupancy sensor, STE-6014W36 rotary dial).
    • Pneumatic Controls: Models 35S, 35SST, 37S, 37SST with 1P3, 2P3, or 3P3 sequences for VAV cooling with/without heat. Options for proportional hot water heat, electric heat, and night setback with P.E. switches.
  • Liner Options: Steri-liner, Steri-liner + Perforated metal, Fiber-free, Perforated metal, Solid metal, 1" (25) fiberglass, Low temperature construction.
  • Other Options: Left-hand controls location, toggle disconnect switch, fan unit fusing, 24/24V isolation transformer, Cross Flow Sensor, 'Q' Option – Induced Air Inlet Attenuator, top entry induced air inlet, 1" (25) throwaway filter, 2" (51) MERV 8 filter, hanger brackets, 1/4-turn fasteners (access panel), dust tight enclosure seal, remote user disconnect.
  • ECM Motor Operation: Pressure independent and constant volume operation at factory or field set point. Airflow does not vary with changing static pressure conditions. Fan curves are applicable to 120, 208, 240, and 277 volt, single phase ECMs with built-in AC/DC converter.

Maintenance Features:

  • Electric Coil: Unique hinged heater design permits easy access, removal, and replacement of heater elements without disturbing ductwork.
  • Hot Water Coil: Top and bottom access panels for inspection and coil cleaning.
  • General: Nailor EZvav controllers require no routine maintenance; clean with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Fan and Motor: Permanently lubricated motors. Inspect fan and motor assembly for dust and dirt. If repair or replacement is required, the motor and fan can be removed as an assembly.
  • Primary Air Damper: The primary air valve assembly is not repairable; replace the entire assembly if damaged.
