Machinestartupincoldweather
Machinesattemperaturesbelow-2°C(29°F):
1.Ifequipped,plugtheengineblockheaterintoanappropriateelectricaloutletafewhoursbeforestartingthema-
chine.
2.TurnthekeyswitchtotheONpositionandchecktheinstrumentcluster.
3.Ifthemachineisequippedwithapre-heatsystem,waitfortheenginepre-heatlamptostopilluminating.
4.TurnthekeyswitchtotheSTARTpositionuntiltheenginestarts,thenreleasethekey.
NOTE:Iftheenginefailstostartafteramaximumof30sofcranking,repeatthestartingprocedure.Donotoperate
thestartingmotorformorethan60s.
Machinesattemperaturesof-15°C(5°F)orlower:
•
Donotwaitlongerthan30saftertheenginepre-heatlamphasstoppedilluminatingbeforecrankingtheengine.If
thedelayislonger,thestartupcycleisabortedandtheprocessmustberestarted.
•
TheEngineControlUnit(ECU)limitsthemaximumspeedoftheengineto1200RPMuntiltheengineisproperly
warmed.
Warmupthehydraulicsystem
Whenthetemperatureisbelow4°C(40°F)youmustwarmupthehydraulicsystem:
1.Runtheengineat1000RPMuntilthecoolanttemperatureiswarm.
2.Leavetheboominthetransportpositionwiththeswinglockpininstalled.
3.Ifthemachineisequippedwithpilotcontrols,ensurethebackhoeandstabilizercontrolswitchisenabledforall
backhoecontrols.
4.Raisetheenginethrottlebetween1600–1800RPM.
5.Placeandholdtheboomcontrolinthedownposition.
6.Whileholdingtheboomcontroltotheendofthelevers,strokecyclethebackhoebucketinandout.
NOTE:Watchthelterrestrictionindicatorlamp.Iftheoilistoocoldthelampwillilluminatewhiletheoperator
cyclesthefunctions.
7.Cyclethefunctionsforapproximately30s.
8.Releasethecontrolsandleavethemachinethrottlesetforapproximately15s.
9.Repeatsteps6–8untilthelterrestrictionindicatorlampremainsoffwhilecyclingfunctions.
NOTE:Immediatelyafterthewarmupprocedure,themachinemayoperateabitslowerthannormal,butwillquickly
warmtonormaloperatingspeeds.
