Scales in the coolant passage compartments can also cause overheating, so clean them carefully. Other potential causes include a slack centrifugal pump drive belt or fan drive belt, needing adjustment, or insufficient coolant, requiring you to restore the level in the expansion tank. Incorrect engine timing or a restricted air filter can also lead to overheating; check and correct the timing, and clean or replace the air filter element.
