Assistedstarting(Jump-starting)
Ahighcurrentowsonconnectionofthegroundcable.
Sparksoccurringatthecontactpointmayignitegasesat
thedischargedbattery.
Connectthegroundcabletotheframeasfaraspossible
awayfromthedischargedbattery.
Duringassistedstartingoperations(bymeansofanexter-
nalbattery),donotleanoverthebatteries.Weargoggles.
Nevertrytostartthemachinewhenthebatteriesarede-
fectiveorfrozen.
Onlyconnectbatteries(batteryassemblies)withthesame
voltage.
Onlyusetestedjumpercableswithinsulatedterminal
clipsandanadequateleaddiameter.
Ensurethatthebodiesofthesupplyingandreceivingma-
chinesarenotincontact.Otherwiseacurrentowmight
resultfromconnectingthepositivepoles.
Riskofshort-circuiting.
Whenperformingassistedstarting,neverusepowersup-
pliescreatinganover-voltage,suchas,forexample,two
orthreebatteriesinseriesordevicesgeneratingvoltages
above12V.
Neveruseweldinggeneratorsorweldingtransformersas
powersources.
Positionjumpercablesinsuchawaythattheycannotbe
caughtbyrotatingenginecomponents.
Checkwhetherthebatteryofthereceivingmachine
(dischargedbattery)isinworkingorder:
•
Switchoffelectricalaccessories(lights,fans).
•
Insertthekeyintothecylinder,thewarninglamps
fortheenginecheckmustturnon.
•
Ifwarninglampsdonotturnon,thebatteryisfaulty
(dischargedorwithashort-circuitinside).
Inthiscasethemachinemustnotbestarted,asthealter-
natorwouldthenbedamaged.
Installafunctionalbatterybeforejump-starting.
