Turbocharger-Check
TURBOCHARGER
Seriousdamagetotheturbochargerbearingcanresult
frominadequatelubricationifthefollowingrecommenda-
tionsarenotobserved.
Thefollowingproceduremustbeobservedinordertopre-
venttheturbochargerbearingsfromdeteriorating.
Disconnecttheinletandoutletoilpipesfromthetur-
bochargerandpoursomecleanengineoilintotheoil
inletport,takingcarethatnocontaminantsenterthe
turbocharger.
Removetheairinlettubefromtheturbochargerandspin
thecompressorwheelbyhandtopre-lubricatethebear-
ings.
Re-connecttheoilinletandairinlettubesbutnottheoil
outlet.
Disconnecttheelectricalwiretothefuelinjectionpumpfuel
shut-offsolenoid.
Placeasuitablereceptaclebelowtheoiloutletportand
cranktheengineuntiloilowsfromtheoutletport.
Re-connecttheoiloutlettubeusinganewgasketand
tightentheretainingboltstothetorque.
Re-connectthefuelinjectionpumpfuelshut-offsolenoid
wire.
Checktheengineoilleveland,ifnecessary,topup.Start
theengineandcheckforoilandairleaks.
Observetheoilpressurelight.Iftheoilpressurelampdoes
notturnoffintherstfewsecondsofidling,immediately
stoptheengineandconsultyourDealer.
Oneverystart-uptheengineshouldbeallowedtoidle(
1000RPMmaximum)for60sbeforeoperatingunderload,
toensureanadequateoilsupplytotheturbochargerbear-
ing.
Theengineshouldalsobeallowedtoidlewithoutloadfor
twominutesbeforeshut-downtoenabletheoiltodissipate
theheatfromtheturbochargerbearing.
