Chapter 9 Reprocessing the Endoscope (and related reprocessing accessories)
ULTRASOUND GASTROVIDEOSCOPE GF-UCT180
Ethylene oxide gas sterilization
As an alternative to high-level disinfection, the endoscope can be sterilized by
ethylene oxide gas. After performing manual cleaning and drying as described in
Section 9.2, “Preparing the equipment for reprocessing” on page 128 and
Section 9.5, “Manually cleaning the endoscope and accessories” on page 138,
follow the procedures given below.
• Exceeding the recommended parameters may cause
equipment damage.
• If ethylene oxide gas sterilization is performed while the
water-resistant caps are attached, the covering of the
bending section can be damaged.
1. Dry the endoscope before ethylene oxide gas sterilization.
2. Remove the water-resistant caps before ethylene oxide gas sterilization
(see Figure 9.24).

3. Seal the instrument in a package appropriate for ethylene oxide gas
sterilization according to your healthcare facility’s protocol.
4. Sterilize the package according to the recommended ethylene oxide gas
exposure parameters as described in Section 6.11, “Ethylene oxide gas
sterilization” on page 103 and the sterilizer manufacturer’s instructions.
5. Aerate the components following the minimum aeration parameters
specified in Section 6.11, “Ethylene oxide gas sterilization” on page 103.
6. Store the components following the instructions given in Chapter 9,
“Reprocessing the Endoscope (and related reprocessing accessories)”.
