Troubleshooting Section
Repair: Perform the following repair:
Repair the connectors or the harness and/or
replace the connectors or the harness. Ensure that
all of the seal
s are correctly in place and ensure
that the connectors are completely coupled.
Verify that th
e repair eliminates the fault.
STOP.
Test Step 2. Check for Active Diagnostic
Codes
A. Connect Perk
ins EST to the data link connector.
B. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
C. Monitor the active diagnostic code screen on
Perkins EST. Check and record active diagnostic
codes.
Expected Result:
Result 1 Diagnostic code 91-08 is active.
Result 2 Ther
e are no active diagnostic codes that
are associated with the speed demand circuit at this
time. However, a fault is suspected.
Results:
Result 1 Pr
oceed to Test Step 3.
Result 2 There may be an intermittent connection
in the wirin
g.ProceedtoTestStep3.
Test Step 3. Check the Control Signal.
A. Refer to the OEM supplied manual for the control
system.
B. Check that the output signal from the control
system is c orrect.
Expected Result:
The output s
ignal from the control system should be
within the specication in the OEM supplied manual.
Results:
OK The output signal from the control system is
correct. P
roceed to Test Step 4.
Not OK The output signal from the control
system is n
ot correct or the control system is
incorrectly congured.
Repair: Re
pair the control system or congure the
control system. Refer to the OEM supplied manual.
Verify that the repair eliminates the fault.
STOP.
Test Step 4. Che
ck the Signal at the ECM.
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. RemovetheP1OEMconnector.
C. Te m p o r a r il y r
emove the pin from P1:53.
D. Reconnect P1 OEM connector.
E. Connect the red probe of a multimeter to the
removed pin and the black probe of a multimeter
to P1:33.
F. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
G. Check that the signal at the ECM is the same
value as the output signal from the control system.
H. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
I. Remove P1 OEM c
onnector and reinstall P1:53 to
the P1 OEM connector.
J. Reconnect P1
OEM connector.
Expected Result:
The signal at the ECM is the same value as the
output signal from the control system.
Results:
OK The termi
nals on the ECM have the correct
voltage for the control system.
Repair: The E
CM is suspect.
1. Temporarily connect a test ECM.
Note: The test ECM should be programmed with the
correct software. All parameters should be set to the
same value a
s the suspected ECM.
2. If the fault is eliminated with the test ECM,
install the
suspect ECM and verify that the fault
returns.
3. If the fault
returns replace the ECM.
STOP.
Not OK There is a fault in the harness or the
connectors between the sensor and the ECM.
Check all of
the connections between the ECM and
the control system. Repair the damaged cables
or replace the damaged cables. Check that the
repairs ha
ve eliminated the fault. STOP.
