Query (QRY) Message Syntax
Query (QRY) Message Syntax
The server sends a Query (QRY) message to the monitor to request current patient data.
The QRY message triggers the event R02 (query for results of observation).
QRY Message Segments
The following table describes the segments within the QRY message:
Note — Each message segment consists of a variable number of lines, ending with a
carriage return character. In the examples, long lines are broken for display
purposes, and the carriage return character is indicated by <CR>.
Examples:
The following example shows a QRY message sent by the server to request all
parameters in the numeric panes on the monitor.

Message Header (MSH) Segment
Every QRY message begins with the MSH segment, which contains message envelope
information, such as the timestamp, message type, and some specifics of the message
syntax. The MSH segment does not contain clinical information.
Example:
This MSH segment shows a QRY message being sent from the server on May 10, 2014, at
12:45:00 pm.
