1.15. Syslog
The syslog provides users with the ability to configure local and remote syslog connections.
The remote syslog protocol, defined in RFC 3164, is a UDP/IP-based transport that enables a
device to send event notification messages across IP networks to event message collectors,
also known as syslog servers. The protocol is simply designed to transport these event
messages from the generating device to the collector.
The syslog client resides in ROS® and supports up to 5 collectors (syslog servers). ROS®
Remote Syslog provides the ability to configure:
• IP address(es) of collector(s).
• Source UDP port.
• Destination UDP port per collector.
• Syslog source facility ID per collector (same value for all ROS® modules).
• Filtering severity level per collector (in case different collectors are interested in syslog
reports with different severity levels).
1.15.1. Configuring Local Syslog
The local syslog configuration enables users to control what level of syslog information will
be logged. Only messages of a severity level equal to or greater than the configured severity
level are written to the syslog.txt file in the unit.
