4.18 Update Rates And Response Time
The update rate is a time between successive measurements performed at the
instrument inputs. Response time is the time between a change in an input and when
that change is displayed via the front panel or provided on the instrument outputs
(analog output, relay output, communications).
The instrument’s response time depends on many factors: the measurement mode for
the selected parameter (real-time, sliding average, time average), the update rate for
the parameter output, and the present system burden that may affect the instrument
performance. Running communications and monitoring a large number of events
will advance update time to its higher value.
For a single (real-time) measurement, results can be obtained as soon as an input
signal is processed. For average measurements, additional time needs to be
considered for the measurement to be settled in order for the reading to reflect a
steady state signal.
