This manual includes information on two Video Cassette
Recorder (VCR) models: SLV-585HF and SLV-686HF. The
model name is indicated on the rear and front panes of your
VCR. Any difference between two models is clearly indicated
in the manual, for example, “For SLV-686HF only’.
This manual is divided into five chapters. The chapters and
their contents are as follows.:
For information about the VCR's basic operations, such as
Playback (page 24), Recording a TV program (page 30), or
Timer Recording (page 34), see the chapter Basic
Operations. if you are already familiar with the basic
operations, see the chapter, Advanced Operations. if you
have any problems in operating the VCR, refer to the
Troubleshooting section. if your unit is in need of repair,
Contact your local Sony service facility.
Conventions of this manual
This manual mainly explains operations using the VCR
Remote Commander. However, the buttons on the VCR with
the same name or mark as those on the Remote
Commander function exactly the same as those on the
Remote Commander.
When you are reading through the manual, remember that:

© Numbers in the illustrations correspond to numbers in the
text. Using the button on the VCR with the same name
instead of the button of the Remote Commander, you can
also control the VCR.
