4.7.2 Steering
Emergency steering system.
No support is given to servo steering
while diesel engine is standing.
The steering forces are very high!
In the event of steering malfunctions,
determine the cause immediately (see
Trouble-Shooting Table chap. 8) and call
for service personnel if necessary.

The wheeled excavator is equipped with a fully-
hydraulic jointed front axle and an emergency
steering system.
TW85 AL
The wheeled excavator is equipped with two fully-
hydraulic jointed axles and an emergency steering
system.
Normal steering
Travel range/steering type switch (19/64) in
"street normal" position (rabbit) or "work
normal" (turtle).
When switching over from four-wheel
steering to normal steering, the rear axle
must be in "straight position."
control lamp (19/34) lights up.
Four-wheel steering
The four-wheel steering is activated via the
travel range/steering type switch (19/64).
To do so, raise switch lever in the "working
travel range" position (turtle) in order to
deactivate the lock and push forward to 4WS or
"crab steering."
Green control lamp in travel range / steering
type switch lights up.
The lock ensures that activation of four-wheel
steering can only occur through intentional raising
of the switch lever.
In four-wheel steering, only the "working"
travel speed is possible.
