Automatic operation (position 1)
The wi per speed is determined by t he
amount of r aindrops and s unlight detec ted
by t he automati c wi per cont rol s ensor and
the vehic le speed.
The aut omatic wiper cont rol sensor i s on
the ins ide of the windshiel d as shown
above.
If y ou feel t hat the oper ation of the auto-
matic wiper cont rol is too fast or too sl ow,
twis t the automati c c ontrol adjust er in t he
upward t o boost s ensit ivit y, or downwar d
to lower sensitivity.
Vehicles without s mart entr y and start sy s-
tem—If the wiper lever is in position 1
while the engi ne swi tch is i n the “ ON”
posit ion, the wiper will operate once to
show that automat ic operati on is acti ve.
Vehicles with smar t entr y and star t sys-
tem—If the wiper lever is in position 1
while the “ENGI NE START STOP” s witch
is in I GNITION ON mode, the wiper will
operate once to s how t hat automati c op-
erati on is activ e.
Even if the wiper lever is in position 1,
the system will switch to intermittent op-
erati ons in the following c onditions :
D When the wi ndshiel d gets ext remely
cold (at l ess than −15_C[5_F])
D When the system malfunctions
However, when t he winds hield get s ex-
tremel y hot ( at more t han 90_C [194_F]),
the wipers do not operate ev en if t he
wiper lever i s in positi on 1.
If the windshiel d w ipers c ease operation
while in “AUTO” mode, c hange t o a mode
other than “AUTO”.
If it is raining and the wiper is set to
automatic operation, as s oon as the v e-
hicl e star ts to move, the wiper will oper ate
once to clear t he driver’s front vi ew.
CAUTION
Be car eful not to get your f ingers
caught between the wi pers and wind-
shield.
Vehicles wit hout smart ent ry and start
system—When the wi per lever is in
position 1 wit h the engine swi tch is
in the “ON” position, the wipers
could operate automatically in the fol-
lowing cases:
D If you touch t he upper center of t he
windshield adjacent to the sensor.
D If you wipe the upper center of t he
windshield (adj acent t o whi ch the
sensor is locat ed) with a t owel or
other object.
D If the windshield vibrates.
D If you touch the sensor.
Vehicles wi th smar t ent ry and start
system—When the wi per lever is in
position 1 with the “ ENGINE START
STOP” swit ch is in IGNI TION ON
mode, the wi pers could operate auto-
maticall y in the following cases:
D If you touch t he upper center of t he
windshield adjacent to the sensor.
D If you wipe the upper center of t he
windshield (adj acent t o whi ch the
sensor is locat ed) with a t owel or
other object.
