(d) Sel ecting gear step in th e “D” posi-
tion
The paddle shif t s witc hes ar e als o act ive
when the transmi ssi on is in t he D” pos i-
tion. Operati ng t he paddle shift swit ches
while i n the D” pos iti on will cause gear
step hold cont rol (s imilar to 7Speed
Sport Sequential Shif tmati c mode contr ol)
to be executed.
To driv e in t emporary gear s tep sel ection
mode, operate the “–” or “+” paddl e s hift
swit ch. The gear s tep can then be se-
lect ed by operating the “–” and +” paddl e
shift s witc hes.
Changing the gear step allows r estri cti on
of the hi ghest gear step, preventi ng un-
necess ary ups hifti ng and enabli ng the lev-
el of engine braki ng f orce to be selec ted.
When in temporar y gear s tep sel ection
mode, “D” and t he s elect ed gear s tep i s
displ ayed in the shift pos iti on indicat or.
Temporary gear st ep s elect ion mode is
cancel ed in the following si tuations :
D When t he “+” paddle shif t swi tch is
pulled for more than the fix ed time
D When you ac celer ate for mor e than the
fixed time in the same shift position
D When the vehic le is st opped
Also, i f the shi ft lev er is mov ed int o t he
“M” pos iti on while i n tempor ary gear s tep
selec tion mode, t he transmi ssion wi ll be
put into 7Speed Spor t Sequential Shift-
matic mode.
If the shif t positi on i ndicat or f lashes or a
warning buz zer s ounds (exc ept during
operati on of the paddl e shif t s witc hes) ,
there may be a problem in the system.

any aut horiz ed Toy ota deal er or repair er,
or another duly qual ifi ed and equipped
profes sional as soon as poss ible. In this
case, you c an dr ive in t he s ame condi tion
as i n the D” posi tion.
