A sound may be heard from the engine
compart ment for a f ew s econds when t he
engine i s s tart ed or just aft er t he vehi cle
begins to mov e. This means that the sys-
tem is in the self−check mode. This sound
does not indic ate a malfunct ion.
When the traction control system is oper-
ating, the fol lowing condit ions occ ur:
D The system controls the spinning of the
driv e w heels. At this t ime, the s lip i ndi-
cator light blinks.
D The v ehicl e m ay vibr ate or mak e a
noise due t o br ake operat ion. This indi-
cates the system is functioning proper-
ly.
Vehicles without s mart entr y and start sy s-
tem—The slip indic ator light comes on for
a f ew s econds when the engine swi tch is
turned t o the “ON” posi tion. If t he indic a-
tor l ight does not come on when t he en-
gine s witc h is turned to the “ON” posi tion,
contac t any authori zed Toy ota dealer or
repair er, or anot her duly qual ifi ed and
equipped profes sional .
Vehicles with smar t entr y and star t sys-
tem—The slip indic ator light comes on for
a f ew s econds when the “ ENGINE START
STOP” swit ch is in IGNI TION ON mode.
If the indic ator light does not come on
when t he “ ENGINE START STOP” swi tch
is in IG NITION ON mode, c ontact any
authori zed Toyot a dealer or r epairer, or
another duly qual ifi ed and equipped pro-
fess ional.
SYSTEM FAILURE WARNING
The sli p i ndicat or light c omes on when
there is a pr oblem somewhere in the fol-
lowing systems:
D Traction control system
D “AUTO LSD” f uncti on (two−wheel dri ve
models)
D VSC+ system
D Downhill assist control system (four−
wheel driv e models)
D Hill−start assist control system
Vehicles without s mart entr y and start sy s-
tem—The light wi ll come on when the en-
gine s witc h is turned to the “ON” posi tion.
When the systems work properly, the light
turns off af ter a few sec onds.
Vehicles with smar t entr y and star t sys-
tem—The li ght wil l come on when the
“ENGINE START STOP” s witch is i n IGNI-
TION ON mode. When t he systems are
work proper ly, the light tur n off aft er a few
seconds .
If the li ght comes on while drivi ng, all the
above systems do not work. In this case,
the brakes wil l operate when applied, and
normal driv ing may be resumed.
