The VSC+ system automatical ly contr ols
the brakes, engine and power steer ing
to hel p prevent the vehicle from ski d-
ding when corner ing on a sli ppery road
surface or oper ating steeri ng wheel
abruptly.
The VSC+ system is activated when your
vehic le speed ex ceeds about 15 km/ h (9
mph).
A sound may be heard from the engine
compart ment for a f ew s econds when t he
engine i s s tart ed or just aft er t he vehi cle
begins to mov e. This means that the sys-
tem is in the self−check mode. This sound
does not indic ate a malfunct ion.
CAUTION
D Do not rel y excessively on the
VSC+ system. Even if the VSC+ sys-
tem i s operat ing, you must always
drive careful ly and attent ively. Reck-
less driving will result in an unex-
pected accident and cause death o r
serious injury. If the slip indicator
light f lashes, and an alar m sounds,
special care should be taken while
driving.
D Use only tires of th e speci fied size.
The size, manuf acturer, brand and
tread patter n for al l 4 tir es should
be the same. I f you use tires other
than those specified, or of a differ-
ent type or si ze, the VSC+ system
may not functi on corr ectly. When
replacing t he tires or wheels, con-
tact any authoriz ed Toyota dealer or
repairer, or anot her dul y qualifi ed
and equipped pr ofessional. (See
“Checking and replaci ng ti res” on
page 519 i n Section 7−2.)
