The DPNR (Diesel Particul ate−NOx Re-
duction Syst em) catal ytic conver ter and
catalyt ic convert er are emi ssion control
devices installed in the exhaust syst em.
The purpos e is to reduce pol lutants i n the
exhaust gas .
CAUTION
D Keep people and combusti ble mate-
rials away f rom the exhaust pipe
while the engi ne is running. The
exhaust gas is very hot.
D Do not i dle or par k your vehicl e
over anything t hat might burn easi-
ly such as grass, leaves, paper or
rags.
NOTICE
A large amount of unburned gases
flowin g int o the catalyt ic convert er
may cause it t o overheat and cr eate a
fir e haz ard. To prevent this and other
damage, observe t he followi ng pr ecau-
tions:
z Use onl y diesel fuel.
z Do not drive with an extremely low
fuel level; running out of fuel could
cause t he engine to misf ire, creat-
ing an excessive l oad on t he cata-
lytic converters.
z Do not allow the engine to run at
idle speed for more than 20 min-
utes.
z Do not push−st art or pull −start your
vehicle.
z Do not turn off t he engine whil e the
vehicle is moving.
z Keep your engi ne i n good r unning
order. Malf unctions in the engi ne
electr ical system or fuel system
could cause an extremely hi gh cata-
lytic converter temperature.
z If the engine becomes difficult to
start or stall s frequent ly, t ake your
vehicle in for a check−up to any
authori zed Toyota dealer or repai rer,
or another duly qualif ied and
equipped professional .
z To ensure that the catalyt ic conver t-
ers and t he entir e emission control
system oper ate pr operly, your ve-
hicle m ust r eceive the per iodic in-
spections r equired by t he Toyota
Maintenance Schedule. For sched-
uled mai ntenance inf ormation, refer
to the “Toyota Service Booklet” or
“Toyota Warr anty Booklet” .
