CAUTION
D Exhaust gases include har mful car-
bon monoxi de (CO) that is colorless
and odorless. Inhaling exhaust
gases may lead to death or a ser i-
ous health hazard.
D The exhaust should be checked
occasionally. If ther e i s a hole or
crack caused by corrosion, damage
to a joi nt or abnormal exhaust
noise, be sure to have t he vehi cle
inspected and repair ed by any
authori zed Toyota dealer or repai rer,
or another duly qualif ied and
equipped pr ofessional. Failur e to do
so may al low exhaust gases to
enter t he vehi cle, r esulting in death
or a ser ious heal th hazar d.
D If the vehicle i s in a poor ly vent i-
lated area, turn the engine off. In a
closed area, such as a garage, ex-
haust gases may col lect and enter
the vehi cle. Thi s may lead to death
or a serious health hazard.
D Do not remain f or a long ti me in a
parked vehicle wit h the engine run-
ning. If it is unavoi dable, however,
do so only in an unconfi ned area
and adjust t he heating or cooli ng
system to force outside ai r into the
vehicle.
D Keep t he back door closed whil e
driving. An open or unsealed back
door may cause exhaust gases t o
be drawn into the vehicle.
D To allow pr oper operat ion of your
vehicle’s venti lation system, keep
the inlet grilles in front of the wind-
shield clear of snow, leaves, or oth-
er obstruct ions.
D If the smell of exhaust i s noti ced
inside the vehicle, open the win-
dows. Large amounts of exhaust in
the vehicle can cause driver drowsi-
ness and an accident , r esulti ng in
death or a ser ious health hazard.
Have t he vehicle inspect ed by any
authori zed Toyota dealer or repai rer,
or another duly qualif ied and
equipped professional i mmediately.
D Do not leave t he engine r unning in
an area wit h snow buil d−up, or
where it is snowing. If snowbanks
build up around the vehicle while
the engine is running, exhaust
gases may coll ect and ent er t he ve-
hicle. Thi s may l ead t o death or a
serious healt h hazard.
D When taking a nap in the vehicle,
always tur n the engine off . Other-
wise, you may acci dentally move
the shif t lever or depress the accel-
erator pedal, whi ch coul d cause an
accident or fire due to engine over-
heating. Additionally, if the vehicle
is parked in a poorly ventilated
area, exhaust gases may col lect and
enter the vehi cle, leadi ng t o death
or a serious health hazard.
