STARTING AND DRI VING
Diesel engine—I f the engi ne does not s tart
immediatel y after the “ENGI NE START
STOP” switc h is pr essed, t he engine is
being preheat ing. The engine preheati ng
indic ator also comes on. The engine will
automatic ally be star ted when engi ne pre-
heating is finis hed, and the preheat ing in-
dicat or will go off.
Engine should be war med up by driving,
not in idle. For warming up, drive with
smoothl y tur ning engine until engine cool-
ant temperatur e is withi n normal range.
If the engine stalls...
Simply restar t it, using t he corr ect proce-
dure given in normal st arti ng.
If the engine will not star t...
In the foll owing cases , the engine wil l not
start.
D If a buzzer sounds fr om the vehic le,
and t he “No k ey det ected” mes sage
appears on the mul ti−information dis-
play when pr essi ng the “ENGINE
START STOP” sw itch, this indi cates
that the key i s not in the vehic le.
D There are inst ances i n which the en-
gine will not start , ev en if the key is
in the v ehic le ( e.g. on the floor, i n the
cup holder or glov e box).
When the push button start function
does not operat e proper ly, t he foll owing
may be causes:
D The communi cation bet ween the elec-
troni c key and v ehicl e is int errupt ed or
the elect ronic key bat tery is di s-
charged. ( For inform ation on ex ample
sit uations wher e the communic ation is
interr upted, s ee “CONDI TIONS AF-
FECTING OPERATION” on page 51 in
Secti on 1−2.)
You can star t the engine by touching
the Toy ota logo s ide of the el ectr onic
key to the “ENGINE START STOP”
swit ch. (For detail s, see “STARTING
THE ENGINE WHEN THE ELEC-
TRONIC KEY DOES NOT OPERATE
PROPERLY” on page 52 in Secti on
1−2.)
If the el ectr onic k ey batt ery i s dis-
charged, repl ace t he batt ery as s oon
as possi ble. (See “—Repl acing bat tery ”
on page 40 in Sect ion 1−2.)
D The engi ne was r epeatedly t urned on
and off over a short peri od.
Wait 10 seconds and then s tart the
engine.
D If t he gr een indic ator li ght on the
“ENGINE START STOP” swit ch fl ashes,
and the “St eering st ill l ocked” mes sage
appears on the mul ti−information dis-
play, t he st eering wheel is loc ked.
To f ree it, r otate the s teering wheel
slight ly while pressi ng t he “ENGINE
START STOP” switc h.
D If the amber indi cator light on the
“ENGINE START STOP” swit ch fl ashes,
and the “ Check st eering l ock” mes sage
appears on the mul ti−information dis-
play, there is a pr oblem i n t he st eering
lock func tion.
Contact any authoriz ed Toy ota dealer
or repai rer, or another duly quali fied
and equi pped profess ional, and have
your vehi cle and all key s inspec ted.
