IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY
If the engine wi ll not start, your engine
may be f looded because of repeated
cranking.
Vehicles without s mart entr y and start sy s-
tem—If thi s happens, turn the engi ne
switch to “START” position with the accel-
erator pedal ful ly depr essed. Keep t he en-
gine s wit ch and acc elerat or pedal in thes e
posit ions for 15 sec onds and rel ease
them. Then try star ting t he engine wit h
your foot off t he acceler ator pedal.
Vehicles with smart entry and st art
system—If this happens, pr ess the
“ENGINE START STOP” switc h wi th the
brake pedal and the acc elerator pedal fully
depress ed, and hold the “ENGI NE S TART
STOP” swi tch for about 30 s econds. Then
the c ranki ng hold funct ion s tops crank ing
automatic ally, and you c an try star ting t he
engine with your foot off t he acc elerat or
pedal.
If the engine does not s tart, wai t a few
minutes and try agai n.
If the engine still will not s tart , i t needs
adjust ment or r epair. Cal l any authori zed
Toyota deal er or repai rer, or anot her duly
qualifi ed and equipped profes sional , for
assi stanc e.
NOTICE
Without smart ent ry and st art sys-
tem—Do not crank for mor e than 30
seconds at a time. This may overheat
the start er and wiring systems.
Restart the engi ne by fol lowing t hese
procedures:
1. Refuel y our vehic le.
2. Operat e the pr iming pump unti l y ou
feel more res ist ance t o bleed t he fuel
system.
3. Cr ank the engine until it st arts .
If the engi ne does not s tart within 30
seconds of c ranki ng, wait for 10 s ec-
onds and t ry step 2 and st ep 3 once
again.
If the engi ne s till does not st art, con-
tact any aut horiz ed Toy ota dealer or
repair er, or anot her dul y qual ifi ed and
equipped profes sional .
4. Aft er s tart ing the engine, depress the
accel erator pedal light ly unt il t he en-
gine runs smoot hly.
NOTICE
z Do not crank t he engine befor e re-
fueling and operat ing the priming
pump. This may damage the engine
and fuel system.

tem—Do not cr ank f or mor e than 30
