may need to rins e each sect ion right
after you wash it.
4. To prevent water s pots, dry the vehi cle
using a clean soft cott on t owel. Do not
rub or pr ess hard—y ou mi ght scrat ch
the paint.
NOTICE
z Do not use or ganic substances
(gasoli ne, kerosene, benzi ne or
strong solvents) , which m ay be tox-
ic or cause damage.
z Do not scr ub any par t of the ve-
hicle wi th a hard brush, which may
cause damage.
Automati c car wash
Your vehi cle may be washed in an aut o-
matic c ar was h, but remember t hat t he
paint can be s crat ched by some t ypes of
brushes , unf ilt ered was hing water, or t he
washing process its elf. Scratc hing r educes
paint durability and gloss, especially on
darker c olors. The manager of t he c ar
wash shoul d be able t o advis e you whet h-
er the pr ocess is s afe for the paint on
your vehi cle.

tion type winds hield wiper s—
Turn t he wipers off befor e washi ng t he
vehic le. For det ails, see “Winds hield wi p-
ers and washer (r aindrop detec tion t ype)”
on page 189.
NOTICE
z To pr event damage to t he antenna,
make sure it is removed befor e
driving your Toyota t hrough an au-
tomati c car wash.
z Befor e drivi ng, ensure that t he an-
tenna is installed.
z When the antenna i s removed, make
sure to st ore it in a suitabl e pl ace
so as not to lose it . Also, bef ore
driving, make sure t o reinstall the
antenna in its origin al position.
Waxing your Toyota
Polishing and waxi ng is recommended
to maintain the original beauty of your
Toyota’s finish.
Apply wax once a month or if the v ehicl e
surf ace does not repel water wel l.
1. Alway s wash and dry the vehic le be-
fore y ou begin waxing, ev en if y ou are
using a combined cleaner and wax .
2. Us e a good quality polis h and wax. If
the finish has bec ome ex tremely weath-
ered, use a c arc leaning poli sh, fol-
lowed by a s eparate wax . C arefull y fol-
low the manufac turer’s i nstr uctions and
precaut ions. Be s ure t o polis h and wax
the c hrome tr im as well as t he paint.
Windshi eld was her nozz les : Mak e sure
that the noz zles do not become blocked
when waxing. If a nozz le becomes
block ed, contac t aut horiz ed Toy ota dealer
or r epairer, or another duly quali fied and
equipped pr ofess ional, t o hav e the vehi cle
serv iced.
NOTICE
If a nozz le becomes blocked, do not
try to clear it wit h a pin or other
object. The nozzl e will be damaged.
Exter ior l ights : Do not apply wax on the
surf aces of the light s. Wax may caus e
damage to the l enses. If you acci dentally
put wax on the light surf aces, wi pe or
wash it off.
3. Wax the vehi cle agai n when wat er
does not bead but remains on the sur-
face in lar ge patches.
