Hand−washing your Toyota
Work in t he shade and wait unti l t he
vehicle body i s not warm to the t ouch.
CAUTION
D When cleaning under floor or chas-
sis, be careful not to injur e your
hands.
D Exhaust gases cause the exhaust
pipe to become quite hot. When
washing the vehicle, be careful not
to touch the pipe unt il i t has cooled
suffi ciently, as touchi ng a hot ex-
haust pipe can cause bur ns.
NOTICE
When t he fr ont wiper arms need t o be
lift ed away f rom the windshiel d to
wash the vehicle, raise the ar m on
the driver si de first . Conversely, when
returning the wipers to their original
positions, fold down the arm on t he
front passenger side f irst . Failur e t o
perfor m t he operat ions in the correct
order result s in damage.
1. Rins e off loose dir t wit h a hose. Re-
move any mud or road s alt from the
undersi de of the vehicl e or the wheel
wells.
2. Wash with a mild car−was h soap,
mixed accordi ng to t he manufac turer’s
inst ruct ions. Use a sof t c otton mit t and
keep it wet by dipping it frequent ly int o
the wash wat er. Do not r ub har d—let
the soap and water remove the dirt .
Plast ic wheel or naments: The plast ic
wheel or naments are damaged easily by
organic subs tances . I f any organi c s ub-
stanc es splas h an or nament, be sure to
wash t hem off with water and check i f the
ornament is damaged.
Aluminum wheels: Remove any dirt imme-
diately by using a neutral deter gent.
Do not use hard br ushes or abras ive
cleaner s. Do not use st rong or harsh
chemic al c leaners. Use t he same mi ld de-
tergent and wax as used on the paint.
Do not us e det ergent on the wheels when
they are hot, for example af ter dr ivi ng for
long dist ance in the hot weather.
Wash det ergent f rom the wheel s immedi-
ately af ter use.
NOTICE
z Do not use corr osive chemi cal−
based cl eaners on your wheel s.
(Example: hydrofl uoric aci d)
z Do not use steam cleaners or the
chemicals t herein t o clean your
wheels.
z Do not use scouring pads, wire
brushes, or coar se abr asives t o
clean your wheels.
Plast ic bumper s: Wash caref ully. Do not
scr ub wit h abr asiv e cl eaners. The bumper
faces are soft.
Exter ior li ghts: Wash c arefull y. Do not us e
organic subst ances or scr ub t hem with a
hard br ush. This may damage the sur-
faces of t he lights .
Road tar : Remove with tur pentine or
cleaner s t hat are mark ed safe for paint ed
surf aces.
