BATTERY POWER SAVING
Both the v ehicl e and key tr ansmit ters are
always s ending signal s to each ot her. To
prevent t he bat teries f rom being dis-
charged, the s mart entry and star t system
is aut omatic ally deac tiv ated in the foll ow-
ing condit ions:
D If the elect ronic key i s left outsi de of
the vehic le and wit hin the effect ive
range of t he entr y funct ion ac tuati on
area for more than 10 minutes.
D If the door loc k or unl ock operat ion i s
not perfor med more than 2 week s.
To reactivat e the smar t entr y and star t
system, perfor m any of t he following:
(a) Pr ess t he lock button on the outs ide
front door handle and back door han-
dle whi le car ryi ng the elect ronic key.
(b) Per form a wir eless r emote contr ol op-
erati on.
(c) Inser t and tur n t he m echanic al k ey i n
the k eyhole of the driv er ’s door.
The k ey and t he vehic le are communi cat-
ing even whi le the v ehicl e is not being
driv en. Do not l eave t he k ey near the
vehicle (within 2 m [7 ft.]).
The v ehicl e batt ery may drai n if the
vehic le is not used for a long period of
time. To prev ent bat tery drain, dis connect
the battery negati ve (−) ter minal or disable
the smart entry and start system. (For
details about di sable the sm art entry and
start system, see “DISABLING THE
SMART ENTRY AND START SYSTEM” on
page 53 in this Sect ion.)
If t he elec troni c k ey r eceiv es s trong elec-
tromagnet ic waves over a period of time,
the battery c an be drastic ally r un down.
You shoul d always keep the at leas t 1 m
(3 ft.) away from the electronic key follow-
ing elect ric al appliances .

If the vehicle batter y is disconnect ed,
the smart entr y and start system may
not operat e correct ly after you recon-
nect. In this case, you should lock and
unlock t he door s by wir eless r emote
control.
DISABLING THE SMART ENTRY AND
START SYSTEM
The following func tions can be disabled:

fied and equipped profess ional.
If the smart entry and st art system
does not operate pr operly because of a
system mal functi on, consult any autho-
riz ed Toyota dealer or r epairer, or
another duly qualifi ed and equipped
professi onal. Make sure to bri ng all of
the keys. They may be necessary t o
repair th e system.
