Thefunctionofthechainshotguard(6)istoreducethe
riskofseriousinjuryordeathtooperatorsandbystanders
fromyingsawchainpieces.Thechainshotguard
mustbeinplaceandstructurallysoundtoabsorbthe
energyfromabrokensawchain(1)andreducethewhip
actionthatcausesasecondbreakofthesawchain,
ejectingpiecesofthecuttingsawchainathighspeed.
Foradditionalinformationaboutchainshot,refertoSaw
ChainHazardinthesafetysectionofthismanual.
Inspectthechainshotguarddailyorwhensawchain
maintenanceisperformed.
Sawchainbreaksaretheprimarycauseofwearor
damagetothechainshotguard.
Thechainshotguard,capscrews,andhardwareshould
bereplacedyearlyorwhenexcessivelywornordamaged.
