Generalcutprocess
1.Forsmallertreesthatonlyrequireasinglecut,you
mayneedtoover-ridethefellinghead’sunlatching
withthetilt-upbuttonpushedduringcutting.Thiswill
preventthetreefrombeingforcedfasterthanthe
sawchaincancut.Oncethetreeiscut,activatethe
tilt-downbuttontofellthetree.
2.Tofelltreeswithaheavyforwardlean,youcaneither
uprootthem,orusemultiplefrontcutstocreatea
largerareatocompresswhilebackcutting.
3.Toreducetheriskofthefellingheadbeingdamaged,
youshouldreleaselargertreesoncetheyarefalling.
4.Becarefulwhenworkingatthetopsofhillsand/oron
unevenground;thisterraincancausetreestoswing
upwards,liftingthebaseand/ordamagingthefelling
head.
5.Bemindfulthatreleasingtreesastheyarefallinginto
anotherstandingtreecansometimesallowthetree
torolloff.
6.Ifafallentreebecomeshunginanothertree,be
carefulwhenpullingitdown.Ensuretheholdingtreeis
notbeingpulledinthesamedirection;ifthishappens,
pushthetreetouprootthetreeawayfromthecarrier.
Fellingmulti-leaders
CAUTION:Youshouldexercisecautionto
ensureotherleadersdonotunexpectedly
breakaway;beforefellingamulti-leadertree,
inspectitforsignsoftreerot(4).
With‘crutched’trees,youcaneithercutthematapoint
wherebothpartsseparate,orifonesidehasasmaller

diameter,youcanliftthesmaller-diametersideuntilthe
crutchsplits.
Youmayneedtoseparatelyfelltreesthatare‘crutched’at
thebase,ifthesplitlineisclosetotheground.Youshould
carefullyidentifywhetherornotthebaseofthetreeis
sound;ifitis,youmaybeabletofellthetreecompletely.
Evidenceoftreerot(4)indicatesthateachleaderwillneed
tobeindividuallyremoved;dothisintheconventional
manner,exceptatagreaterheight.
