Quarter-cuttechnique
CAUTION:Whileanumberoffactorscanaffect
thefellingcontrolanddirectionoflargeor
double-cuttrees,uncontrolledfellingcancreate
ahazardoussituation.Toreducetheriskofthis
occurring,ensureyouuseworksiteplanningand
managementmethodswhenfellingsuchtrees.
Thequarter-cuttechniqueisusedtoobtainbetter
felling-control.
Makeasaw-cut,placedatthebaseofthetree,inthe
fell-directionapproximately1/4ofthetree’sdiameter.
Then,movethefellingheadtothebackofthetree,ready
forfalling.
CAUTION:Tominimisetheriskofinjuryduring
felling,ensureyoualwaysworkononetreeata
timeandensureyoucompletethetreecut.
Ensurethebackcut(2)isplacedhigherinthetreethan
thequartercut(1),andensurebothcutsareparallelto
achieveahingeeffect.Thiswillpreventlossofcontrol
duringfelling.
Insomecases,severalquartercutswillpreventthetree
fromsnappingofftoosoon.Youcanusethismethodin
anysituationwhereyourequiregreaterfellingcontrol,
suchaswithlargebuttares,heavyleaners,badlyswept

butts,ormulti-leaders.Ahigherlevelofcontrolwill
minimisetheriskofdamagetothetreeand/orthecarrier.
Logloading
WhiletheFL85’sarmsareoptimisedforfelling,
shovel-logging,andbucking,youcanalsouseitfor
loading.
Toperformloadingtasks:
1.Openthegrapplearmsandpickuptheappropriate
logs.
2.Swingandwristthefellingheadtothedesiredlocation
(woodpileortruck).
3.Tounloadthelogorbunch,releasethegrapplearms
whiletiltingtheheadforward.
Shovel-logging
Toperformshovel-logging,rstpickupthetreeorbunch.
Ifthetreesareofaveragesize,swingandwristthefelling
headtothedesiredlocation.
Ifyouareworkingwithlargertrees,usingthewristto
facilitatetheswing-cycle,swingandwristthefellinghead
tothedesiredlocation.
Bucking
Tocarryoutbucking:
1.Usethegrapplearmstoliftthetreefromthegroundat
thedesiredposition.
2.Activatethesawbar.
3.Repeatatdesiredintervalsalongthetree.
