SHIMMING (FOR USA AND CANADA)
2. Set:
● Shimming gauge 1
(onto the tapered roller bearing and
tapered roller bearing outer race as
shown)
NOTE:
● When using the shimming gauge, be sure
to place it at a right angle to the bearing.
Otherwise, the measurement will be
incorrect.
● The shimming gauge was not designed or
manufactured large enough to easily
measure the bearing and shim when they
are assembled; therefore, the specified
measurement procedure cannot be used.
The shim sizes must be determined by
measuring the bearing without the shims.
Example:
If M is “0.21 mm” and “F” is “+5”, then:
T1 = 1.0 + (+5)/100 mm + 0.21 mm
= 1.0 + 0.05 + 0.21 mm
= 1.26 mm (0.050 in)
If M is “0.25 mm” and “F” is “–3”, then:
T1 = 1.0 + (–3)/100 mm + 0.25 mm
= 1.0 – 0.03 + 0.25 mm
= 1.22 mm (0.048 in)
