3. Replace:
● Gear oil
Lower unit leakage check
1. Check:
● Pressure
Pressure drops → Inspect the seals
and components.
NOTE:
Do not overpressurize the lower unit since
excessive pressure may cause the air to
leak out.
Replacement steps:
● Tilt up the outboard slightly.
● Place a container under the gear oil
drain screw 1.
● Remove the drain screw, the check
screw 2, and then drain the gear oil.
● Place the outboard in an upright posi-
tion.
● Add gear oil through the drain hole
until it overflows from the check hole.
Recommended gear oil:
GEAR CASE LUBE (USA) or
Hypoid gear oil, SAE 90
Total amount:

● Install the check screw and then the
drain screw.
Checking steps:
● Connect the pressure tester to the gear
oil level check hole.

● Apply the specified pressure.
Pressure:
100 kPa (1.0 kg/cm

, 14.2 psi)
● Check that the lower unit holds the
specified pressure for ten seconds.
