Inspecting the Crankshaft Pins and
Bearings
• Perform a dye penetrant inspection of the
crankshaft main bearing journals and the
connecting rod pins (Figure 5-57).
• Replace the crankshaft if any cracks or other
significant damage is found.

Inspecting the Crankshaft Bend and
Deflection
• Support the crankshaft on V-blocks at both ends
main bearing journals.
• Rotate the crankshaft and measure the deflection
(Figure 5-58, (1)) of the center journal with a dial
indicator (Figure 5-59, (1)).
