5.9 LLDP CONFIGURATION
LLDP is a standard protocol of the link layer used to announce identity and capabilities to
neighbouring devices in local area networks.
Both the information transmitted and the information received is accessible through the
SNMP protocol, through the MIBs defined in the LLDP standard itself, and is usually used
to determine the topology of the networks.
The standard sets information fields that must be included in a mandatory way. Other fields
are optional and the user can select the information of each of them.
Accessing information through SNMP necessarily implies that the SNMP agent is
enabled.
The device controls the execution of the LLDP protocol through a CheckBox parameter,
and offer additional, specific parameters for each of the ports, which are the following:
• Admin Status. It sets the operation mode of the LLDP agent of the interface. Valid
values are TxRx, TxOnly, RxOnly and disabled. The default value is TxRx.
• Tx Interval. It sets the time between the transmission of messages, in normal
operation. The units are seconds, and 30 is the default value and recommended.
Valid values are 1 to 3600.
• Hold. The value of this parameter is used as a multiplier on Tx Interval and
determines the value of txTTL that is included in the LLDP messages sent by the
agent. 4 is the default value and recommended. Valid values are 1 to 100.
• Reinit. It sets the period of time between the setting of Admin Status as disabled and
the reinitialization attempt. The units are seconds, and 2 is the default value and
recommended. Valid values are 1 to 10.
• Credit Max. It sets the maximum number of consecutive LLDP messages that can
be transmitted at any time. 5 is the default value and recommended. Valid values are
1 to 10.
• Tx Interval Fast. It sets the period of sending LLDP messages in the period of high-
speed transmission, which is activated automatically when a neighbouring device is
detected. 1 is the default value and recommended. Valid values are 1 to 3600.
