Battery Capacity:
1. Make sure the ignition switch is in the “OFF” position.
2. Remove the battery hold-down and then disconnect the battery cables.
3. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal lead from the battery rst, then disconnect
the positive (+) terminal lead.
4. Remove the battery from the battery compartment. Thoroughly wash the battery
and the battery compartment with mild soap and water.
NOTE: If the battery posts, cable ends, or the battery case has a buildup of
white/green powder residue, apply water and baking soda mixture to neutralize
the acid residue and rinse with warm soapy water.
5. Use a wire brush to clean the battery posts and cable ends, remove all corrosive
buildup. Replace any damaged cables.
6. Use a multimeter to test the battery voltage. The voltage for a fully charged
battery should be at least 12.5 Volts DC.
NOTE: If the meter indicates the proper voltage, the battery can be reinstalled
into the battery compartment of the ATV.
7. If the meter indicates low voltage, charge the battery using the guidelines
below.
General Maintenance
Any time service is performed on a battery, the following must be observed: keep
sparks, open ame, cigarettes, or any other ame away. Always wear safety glasses.
Protect skin and clothing when handling a battery. When servicing a battery in an
enclosed space, keep the area well-ventilated. Make sure battery venting is not
obstructed.
WARNING
A. When using an automatic battery charger, always follow the charger
manufacturer’s instructions.
Never exceed the battery’s standard charging rate.
CAUTION
An overheated battery from improper charging could explode causing severe injury
or death. Always monitor charging times and charge rates carefully. Stop charging
a battery if it becomes very warm to the touch. Allow it to cool before resuming any
type of charging.
WARNING
To avoid damage from the ATVs electronic fuel injection components, do not remove
or install a battery wire when the ignition switch is in the “ON” position.
CAUTION
8. After charging the battery for the specied amount of time, remove the battery
charger and allow the battery to sit and cool for 1 to 2 hours.
