Turn off ignition before leaving vehicle. Battery
is discharging
This message appears and a war nin g tone sounds
if you open the dr iver's door whe n t he ignition is
swit ched on. Swit ch the igniti on off so that t he
batt ery will not discharge.
Pressing start/stop button again will switch off
engine.
This message appears whe n you press the
I START
ENGI N E STOPI button while dr iving .
Engine start system: malfunction! Please con-
tact Service
The engine automatic st art system has a mal-
f unction . Drive to an author ized Audi dealer or
aut hor ized Audi Service Facility immed iately to
have the malf unction corrected. To sta rt the en-
gine, press and hold the !START
ENGINE STOPI
button .

This message appears if the re is no convenience
key inside the vehicle or if the system does not
recogni ze t he key. The convenience key may not
be recognized, for examp le, if it is covered by an
object t hat
disrupts the signal (such as a brief -
case), or if the key bat te ry is weak. Electr onic de-
vices such as cell pho nes can also int erfer e wit h
the signa l.

to "Correct ing a malf uncti on"

Ill Remote control key: key not recognized . Is
the key still in the vehicle?
The Ill indicator light turns on and th is message
appears if t he convenience key was removed from
the vehicle when the engine was runn ing . If the
convenience key is no longer in the vehicle, you
cannot switch the ig nition on or start th e engine
once you st op it . I n addit ion, you cannot lock t he
vehicl e from th e out side.
Please press brake pedal
Driving
This message appears if you do not press the
brake pedal w hen start ing the engine.
Please press clutch pedal
This message appears in vehicles wi t h manua l
t ransm issions if you do not press the clutch pedal
whe n st arting t he engine. The engi ne can only be
start ed whe n t he clutc h pedal is pressed.
Please select N or P
This message appears w hen start ing or stoppi ng
t he engine if t he selector lever is not in t he N or
P
position . The engine will not start/stop .
Shift to P, otherwise vehicle can roll away.
Doors can be locked only in P
This message appears for safety reasons along
with a warning tone . It appears if the selecto r
lever for the automat ic tra nsmission is not in the
P position when switch ing the ignit ion off w ith
t he I START
ENGI N E STOPI button . Shift these-
lector lever to the P position . Otherwise, t he vehi-
cle could roll. You also cannot lock t he vehicle us-
ing t he locking sensor on the door handl e or us-
ing t he convenience key.
Starting the engine when there is a
malfunction
It m ay not be possible to sta rt t he engine under
certain circumst ances, for exam p le if the bat tery
in the vehicle key is drained, if interference is af -
fected the key or if there is a system ma lfunc-
tion.
