- Only apply the brakes for the purpose of
cleaning the brake system when road and
traff ic conditions permit. You must not en-
danger other road users. This increases the
risk of an accide nt .
- On steep slopes, reduce the speed and se-
lect a lower gear or lower selector lever po-
sit ion . Drive as little as possible while press-
ing the brake peda l and avoid putt ing your
left foo t on the bra ke pedal while d riving.
This could cause the brakes to overheat and
impair the efficiency of the brakes .
- Do not let the brakes "g rind" by always
keeping your foot on the brake ped al. This
can cause the brakes to overheat, increase
wear and increase braking distance unneces-
sarily.
- Certain weather and operat ing conditions
such as driving through water , d riving in
heavy ra in or driving after washing your ve-
hicle can impair the effectiveness of the
brakes. In the winter , ice may bu ild up on
the brake pads, rotors and drums. Check
these components by braking carefu lly. Ap-
plying the brakes carefu lly several t imes
dr ies the bra kes an d removes ice build -up.
- The effic iency of the bra kes can also be im-
paired by d riving for long st ret ches on roads
cove red with salt witho ut using the brakes .
You can remove sa lt deposi t s from the
bra ke rotors and pads by caref ully app lying
the brakes severa l times.
- If the front spoiler is damaged or you inst all
another spoiler, ma ke sure the front wheel
brakes are vent ilated proper ly. Otherwise,
the brake system could overheat, wh ich re-
duces the ir effectiveness.
- Failure of a brake circuit impai rs braking
performance, which increases brak ing dis-
tance. Avoid driving the vehicle and have it
towed it to the nearest author ized Audi
dealer or author ized Audi Se rvice Facility .
- Never let the veh icle roll while the engine is
stop ped because this increases the risk of an
acc ident.
- If the bra ke booster is not working, you will
have to press much ha rder on the brake
Intellig e nt Technology
ped al to compensate fo r the lack of the
booster .
@ Note
- Never let the brakes "rub" by pressi ng the
peda l lightly whe n braking is not really nec-
essary . This causes the brakes to overheat
and increases braking distance and causes
wear .
- Before driving a long distance on a steep
slope, decrease yo ur speed and select a low-
er driving gear . This makes use of the en-
gine braking effect and relieves the brakes.
If you need to brake addi t ionally, brake in
intervals and not con t inuously.
(D Tips
- If the brake booster is not work ing, you
must press the brake peda l with much more
force than normal.
- If you retrofit your vehicle with a front spo il-
er, wheel covers or sim ila r items, make su re
that the air flow to the fro nt wheels is not
interrupted. Otherwise the brake system
can be come too hot.
Electromechanical
steering
The electromechanical steering supports the
driver 's steering movements .
Power steer ing adapts electronically based on
the vehicle speed.
Indicator lights and messages
• Steering : malfun ction! Please stop vehicle
If this indicato r light turns on and stays on and
t his message appears, the powe r steering may
have failed.
Stop t he veh icle in a safe location as soon as pos-
sible . Do
not cont inue drivi ng . See an autho rized
Audi dealer or authori zed Audi Service Facility for
ass istance.
