Electromechanical
parking brake
Operating
The electromechanical parking broke replaces
the hand broke.

• Pull the switch~ fig. 66 to set the parking

• To rele ase the parking brake, press the brake or
acce le rator pedal while the ignition is sw itched
on and press the button at the same time. The
- (USA mode ls)/ . (Canada models) indi-
cator lights turn on in the button and in the dis-
play.
Your veh icle is equipped with an electromechani-
cal parking brake. The parking brake is designed
to prevent the vehicle from rolling unintentional-
ly and replaces the hand brake .

In addition to the normal functions of a trad i-
tiona l hand brake, the e lectromechanical parking
brake prov ides various conven ience and safety
funct ions.
When starting from rest
- The integra l hill start assist helps you when
driving by automatica lly re leasing the parking
brake¢ page 65, Starting from a stop .
- When starting on inclines, the hill start assist
prevents the veh icle from unintentionally roll-
ing back. The brak ing force of the park ing brake
is not re leased unti l sufficient driving force has
been bu ilt up at the whee ls.
Emergency brake function
An emergency braking f unction ensures that the
vehicle ca n be slowed dow n even if the
normal
bra kes fail ~ page 65, Emergency broking
function.
Indicator lights
- If the parking bra ke is set when the ignit ion is
switched on, the . indicato r lights in the dis -
play and in the button tu rn on .
- If the parking bra ke is set when the ignitio n is
switched off , the . indicator lights in the dis-
play and in the button turn o n for approx imate-
ly 20 seconds.
A WARNING
- Do not press the acce lerator pedal inadver-
tently if the vehicle is stationary but t he en-
g ine is ru nning and a gear is selected. Oth-
erwise the vehicle will st art to move imme-
diate ly and could res ult in a crash.
- If the power supply fails, the re leased park-
ing brake ca n no longer engage. In this
case, par k t he vehicle on level g round and
secure it by placing the sele ctor leve r in the

tance.
